From Belleza to Lumi

Lumi grew out of Belleza into something bigger: a wellness and lifestyle brand of luxury athleisure, everyday objects and, next, a space in Lagos to come to. The brief was to make it timeless, inclusive and globally aspirational. We did the research, wrote the brand, designed the identity and built the shop. All of it grew from two words: Start Within.

Getting into it

We started with research: the market, the competition and the women Lumi is for. Three of them came up again and again. The Seeker, who wants simple, trustworthy ways to feel grounded. The Conscious Individual, who lives with intention. The Modern Professional, who wants to slow down without falling behind. All three were tired of being told that wellbeing was something to achieve, out there, by doing more. The answer wasn’t another routine. It was to turn inward.

The convention

Wellness was sold as something to chase, out there.

01

Wellness as performance.

Feeling better became another target: more steps, more routines, more effort.

02

Pressure over clarity.

Every product promised a result, so every day turned into a test.

03

Made for the ideal day.

Wellness was designed for a life most women don’t live.

04

Excess as luxury.

More was sold as better, when what she wanted was less, done well.

The strategy

From wellness as a performance, to wellbeing that starts within.

Convention
A world where wellness is a performance: something to achieve, track and keep up with.
Vision
To create a world where wellbeing begins from within and clarity grows through awareness.

The idea

Turn inward first.

The category asks for more effort. Lumi asks you to notice first. Awareness before action, understanding before effort: the change starts inside, and everything else follows.

The line

Start Within.

The disruption, in two words. Not do more, not try harder: begin inside. An invitation, not an instruction, so it works on a tote, on a billboard and in a quiet room.

The promise

Clarity without pressure.

What starting within gives back. Spaces, products and experiences that invite people inward, gently and consistently. Calm, unhurried, confident and restrained, in every word.

The identity

Light, radiating from within.

If the brand starts within, so does the mark. A source of light sits at its centre, and everything around it is drawn outward from there.

Colour, taken from light.

We started with what calm looks like: open sky, light on water, a rose, a field, sand, a lily. Each colour is lifted from one of them, then softened into gradients that move the way light does.

Patterns that carry the mark.

The line, the wordmark and the symbol, each made into a texture: calm, repeatable, never louder than the picture.

Brand expressions

One light, many rooms.

Lumi grows into the places where care happens. Beauty, Salon and Cafe each keep the wordmark and set their own word beneath it, so every room says what it is in the same calm voice.

Calm, carried everywhere.

Start Within, carried everywhere: signage, a café, merch and the lines that say it in other words. Made to move. Designed for living. Movement that listens.

E-commerce

A shop that feels like the brand.

Luxury athleisure and everyday objects for the woman who starts within. One trip through the shop: the drop, a product, the bag, checkout on the phone, and the same order in naira, dollars or pounds.

Every drop opens like a season, not a sale.

Counts on every filter, so you know what is there before you tap.

Colour by name, size by fit, and no countdowns.

The bag says what delivery costs, not what else to buy.

The same bag, picked up on the phone, in three short steps.

Naira, dollars or pounds, with duties paid up front.

Founder, Lumi

A brand that starts within needs someone who already lives that way. We are grateful to Lydia Balogun for embodying the idea of Lumi, and for being open to the change it took to get here.
